Abstract:
The objectives of the INNOVATION Circus are to identify the driving factors behind innovation, to locate and involve all potential stakeholders and to instil good practices and new measures into national and regional innovation policies. It will address all potential innovators in society, from schoolchildren to advanced research laboratories, and from the curious man on the street to front-runners in innovative enterprise.
Overview:

The objectives of this project are to examine and identify the driving factors behind innovation, to involve and tap into all potential stakeholders in society and to leverage good practices and new measures into national and regional innovation policies.

Activities carried out within the project include an identification of all potential innovators in society, from school children to advanced research laboratories and from the curious human being to front-runners among innovative enterprises. Innovators of all levels will be brought together and public-private innovation partnerships will be promoted.

The aim is to enable an exchange of experiences and attitudes towards creativity, promote new constellations of collaboration and enhance inventiveness within and across business sectors, scientific fields, education, public sectors and virtual communities.

Key activities:
The project's activities will take place during four regional Innovation Days, followed by four regional Innovation Weeks and Regional Innovation Workshops in the Oeresund region (Copenhagen), the Baltic region (Riga), Central Europe (Berlin) and Southern Europe (Milan). The project will conclude with a Public Partner Meeting in Berlin. The regional INNOVATION CIRCUS activities will take place in a "circus tent" functioning as a market place where participants can meet. The idea is to create an encouraging environment that promotes creativity and allows funny ideas and highly unusual constellations to be presented. The participants can thus unveil their full innovative powers and new initiatives and methodologies may be born.
Expected impact:
The expected results of the project include an outline of national and regional innovation initiatives pointing out perspectives for new innovation measures and policies. The project will deliver a written concept for identifying the driving forces behind innovation, which will be published together with a new web site. The results and new tools to enhance innovation will also be publicly available for all European regions to exploit. With its holistic approach and new methods, the project will contribute to the integration and structuring of the European Research Area by challenging the European society to change its habits, and by providing new tools to fully exploit Europe's potential to innovate and to compete in a global knowledge society. The regional events will take place between May and August 2007. The final Public Partner Meeting will be held in Berlin 10-11 April 2008.
