EIS 2007: Interactive Benchmarking
Interactive visualisation of the European Innovation Scoreboard
This interactive tool visualises data on the Summary Innovation Index and the five innovation dimensions. The index provides an "at a glance" overview of national innovation performance for the EU27 Member States, Croatia, Turkey, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan and the US.
A virtual library containing applications of the interactive tool to other data sets from official statistics is accessible at www.fernuni-hagen.de/newstatistics (path "Library ... / Official statistics"). To obtain more detailed information, please contact joachim.mittag@fernuni-hagen.de.
The visualisation tool offers six different views (Menu: View) and includes a detailed instruction for use (Menu: Help) as well as methodological comments (Menu: Notes). A shortened version of the instruction of use is available below:
| Bar chart 1:
Comparison of normalised scores for the Summary Innovation Index across countries for a user-selected year. The score and the full name of a country can be displayed by locating the mouse on the top of the bar and the country code, respectively. The bars can be sorted by descending or ascending order. |
Bar chart 2: Comparison of normalised scores across countries for a user-selected domain and a user-selected year. The scores can be displayed by locating the mouse on the top of the bar. |
Bar chart 3: Comparison of normalised scores for the Summary Innovation Index and simultaneously for the 5 domains for two user-selected countries and a specified year. Again, the scores can be displayed by locating the mouse on the top of the bar. |
Boxplot: Visualisation of the variability of the Summary Innovation Index and the 5 innovation domains across EU countries for a user-selected year. A boxplot aggregates the information of a data set by displaying five characteristics of the set (minimum, maximum, median and the lower and upper quartiles defining the box). The boxplot referring to a user-selected variable is highlighted. The data set corresponding to the highlighted boxplot can be either hidden or shown. |
Scatterplot 1: Visualisation of the average growth rate of the Summary Innovation Index for the period 2006 - 2007 (horizontal axis) versus the scores for the Summary Innovation Index itself. Locating the mouse on an arbitrarily chosen data point of the scatterplot produces a label displaying the country name. The data may be either hidden or shown. |
Scatterplot 2: Visualisation of normalised scores for 2007 for a user-selected input domain (horizontal axis) versus a user-selected output domain (vertical axis). Locating the mouse on an arbitrarily chosen data point produces a label displaying the country name. The data may be either hidden or shown. |
