INNO-Grips is about supporting policy makers in adopting appropriate policy responses to emerging innovation needs, trends and phenomena. INNO-Grips analyses framework conditions, barriers and drivers to innovation and innovation policy and offers intelligence on international developments in these fields. Findings presented and discussed in workshops. All in all, INNO-Grips is a think-tank that offers a platform for public authorities, industry and academia to exchange views, ideas and best practices with a view to optimise innovation policy

Portugal approves Strategic Programme for Entrepreneurship and Innovation

USA: Massachusetts Plan Identifies Action Steps for Economic Growth

An economic development policy and strategic plan presented to lawmakers in the Massachusetts state legislature last month identifies several steps for investing in the innovation community to improve the state's competitiveness. To create a robust and supportive environment for new company formation and tech commercialisation, the report recommends increasing the state funding for capital and incubator and accelerator programmes by 20 percent annually over the next five years.

USA: Connecticut Innovations Matches State Funds, Creates New Programs

Last week the board of Connecticut Innovations (CI), operating at the State of Connecticut level matching state funds to expand access to capital programmes and launching new initiatives supporting tech transfer efforts, announced the deployment of $250 million over five years.  These funds will be used for activities including SBIR assistance, establishing three technology accelerator hubs and recruiting emerging tech companies nationally and internationally.

Israel’s efforts to strengthen innovation in traditional industries

Back in 2008, the State of Israel had started a national programme to support innovation within the traditional industry. The programme resulted in a significant increase in R&D low-tech and medium-low-tech projects, which were partly funded by the Chief Scientist Office (CSO), a technology agency of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labour. In 2011, 251 project proposals were submitted and 156 were finally approved, with a total funding of about € 40 million (up from 51 projects and funding of € 16 million in 2008, the first year of the programme).
