India-European Union Workshop on Partnerships in Innovation
During 14-17 December 2009, an EU delegation led by Deputy Director General Françoise Le Bail of European Commission DG Enterprise and Industry, was participating in a one-day India-EU workshop on Sectoral Innovation in Chennai and in a one-day India-EU workshop on Innovation Policies and Frameworks in New Delhi, as well as in several site visits in Chennai, Bangalore and New Delhi.
Nine European experts were invited by the European Commission to join the India-EU workshops in their personal capacity (i.e. not representing European Commission or their employing organisation), chosen on their personal merits and capacity to present and reflect more generally the European experiences on issues and sectors that have been identified interesting and important by both the European Commission services and the Indian government representatives.
Following the INNO-Views workshop on Emerging Economies and Innovation (Brussels, 9-10/7/2009), the Commission/DG Enterprise and Industry and the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India organised jointly two workshops in India in December 2009, one on sectoral innovation, the other on Innovation policies and frameworks. A delegation of EU experts and officials participated in the events and met with key stakeholders of Indian innovation systems.
We discovered dynamic and enterpreunial Indian innovation communities, as well as strong potential for EU technologies, prodcuts and services. There are a number of complementarities that provide a mutually beneficial basis for innovation collaboration, which could be further pursued“, stated one of the participants.
