First European SME Week
Entrepeneurs are the focus of the European SME Week: the aim is to boost European entrepeneurship and present the European, national and local support available for entrepeneurs in the form of information, advice, and inspirational ideas for business growth and development.
The SME Week offers something for everyone, underscoring the EU's desire to foster and encourage a stronger, more competitive market for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). For existing SMEs, there will be useful information on available support, motivation to realise their business' full potential through expansion and growth, and a platform for sharing experiences with other like-minded entrepeneurs. For young people considering this carreer path, budding entrepeneurs or those who are hesitant about starting out on a new business venture, the SME Week will help them to make informed decisions with practical information, challenge them with new ideas, and inspire them to take the plunge.
The Small Business Act is the first comprehensive SME policy framework for the EU and the Member States: the SME Week is one of the measures implementing this framework, and is coordinated by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry. Most of the SME Week events and activities have been organised by business organisations, support providers, regional and local authorities, and others in the participating countries.
