The second EPISIS Conference ‘European and National Strategies for Service Innovation - Service Innovation as a Driver for Value Creation’ was held in Hamburg, Germany on 6-7 September 2011.Over 150 policy makers, company representatives, researchers and other interested parties from 27 different countries attendedto two days of discussions, debates and workshops.
The EPISIS second conference addressed the potential of service innovation as a driver for value creation in Europe. All European countries have experienced rapid growth in the service industries and have become service and knowledge economies during the last decades.
In order to reach the full value potential of service innovation, for the benefit of companies all over Europe, it is important to have the right policy instruments to promote service innovation. Although our understanding of the characteristics of the service sector may be much better today than it was a decade ago, further knowledge is needed. It is important to know best practices in the support for service innovation at both regional and national level so that service innovation can be a driver of value creation.
Despite that service innovation is of importance in innovation policy in all European countries, relative few policy makers around Europe work strategically on promoting service innovation through their innovation policy.
The aim of the 2nd EPISIS Conference was to contribute to a better understanding of service innovation policy and to provide policy makers with more knowledge on service innovation as a driver for value creation. The conference was build on the newest theory and policies on service innovation, company cases and best practice in policy making from all over Europe.
The proceedings report of the event is now available summarizing the presentations as well as the panel and the workshop discussions held in the conference. The proceedings report also includes policy recommendations derived from the versatile content of the event.
