Benchmarking of national service innovation policies and measures and the work towards policy implications continued at the EPISIS Think Tank meeting in Paris

Paris was the location of the sixth meeting of the European Service Innovation Think Tank on 24-25 October 2011. Two themes – service innovation policies at the member state level and continuation of work towards policy implications – were the major agenda points. The meeting was opened by a keynote speaker from the hosting organisation. Laure Reinhart, General Manager for Innovation from OSEO gave an overview of the service innovation policy in France.

The third and final EPISIS conference will take place in Helsinki on 4th – 5th of June 2012. The conference will be held at Finland Hall, a unique venue by the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto.

Proceedings report of the second EPISIS conference published

The second EPISIS Conference “European and National Strategies for Service Innovation - Service innovation as a Driver of Value Creation” took place on 6 – 7 September 2011 in Hamburg (Germany). Over 150 policy makers, company representatives, researchers and other interested parties from 27 different countries attended to two days of discussions, debates and workshops.

EPISIS strategy for European Service Innovation launched!

The EPISIS (European Policies and Instrument to Support Service Innovation) project and the European Service Innovation Think Tank - a wider forum of policy makers established by EPISIS -have formulated a Strategy for European Service Innovation consisting of a set of strategic goals and concrete actions to ensure that Europe benefits from its service innovation potential.

I am a senior adviser at the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Norway, Department of research and innovation. I am working on entrepreneurship policies as well as service innovation and innovation policy in general.

The Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry is responsible for innovation policies in Norway. It launched a white paper on innovation in 2008 where the basic approach to service innovation was outlined.

Interview of Mr. Jacques Gautray, member of the European Service Innovation Think Tank

Short presentation

Mr. Jacques Gautray has a PhD in electronics. He started his career as an expert in contact with SMEs for the evaluation and financing process of innovative projects in electronics (Hardware and Software) at the head office level for 8 years. He then moved to manage 3 regional departments for 7 years in Nord Pas de Calais, Champagne Ardenne and Paris. He has a long experience with start-ups, incubators, European funding policy and the innovation network all over France. From 2003 to 2005, he was OSEO national coordinator for IRC network and was the contact point for the IRC project officer.

He joined the Department of European Partnership in September 2008 as a senior project manager and is in charge of three EU projects:

·         KIS PIMS - services in renewable energy,

·         REMake – Eco innovation in recycling and resource efficiency,

·         GreenConServe – services in intelligent and sustainable buildings.

He has participated in a few EU workshops like HiGrowth SMEs policy and how to cope with innovation in services. He is also representing OSEO in the EPISIS Think Tank project.  

European Service Innovation Think Tank 5th meeting highlighted by the Strategy for European Service Innovation and policy conclusions



The fifth meeting of the EPISIS project gathered the European Service Innovation Think Tank to London on 16-17 May 2011. The major point on the meeting agenda was a final discussion on a Strategy for European Service Innovation. A keynote address was given by Professor Andy Neely from the Cambridge Service Alliance on “servitisation of manufacturing”. A practise of presenting national service innovation policies and measures was also begun in the meeting.
