IP4INNO (INNO-Action) Best Practice document

The IP4INNO project was launched in January 2007 and was concluded in December 2008. It will have a ‘follow-on’ in the 2nd half of 2010 to finish in 2011. This IP4INNO II is intended to maintain and improve the business support service developed under IP4INNO.

In line with the overall objective of IP4INNO to increase the understanding and usage of IP by SMEs, the project set out to:

  1. Develop training and teaching materials related to Intellectual Property issues.
  2. Train entities and individual practitioners that support SMEs, and in turn for them to subsequently train their respective SME and advisory audiences.

Training key SME multipliers enabled the greatest possible impact on the business community’s strategic and managerial proficiency in IP.

The project was led by the European Patent Office and had 19 partners from throughout Europe. The partners included national patent offices, innovation agencies and research organisations. Combining a fruitful mix of experienced players from the fields of IP, research and innovation, and business and SME support, enabled coverage of varied topics via hands-on knowledge in each area.

The project organised a total of 64 training events from October 2007 to October 2008; with around 1100 trainees. This outperformed the originally foreseen number of training sessions (40). Surpassing the target by such a margin testifies to the demand for support in the IP area.
